Academic Intervention Services

Academic Intervention Services (AIS) refer to specialized support provided to students in reading and/or math to help them meet grade-level expectations. These services include individualized, differentiated instruction tailored to each student’s specific needs, ensuring that they receive the necessary guidance to succeed. AIS often involves small group instruction, where students can benefit from more focused attention and personalized teaching. The services use multiple approaches to learning, strengthening students' skills and strategies in various ways to address different learning styles. Additionally, ongoing assessments of student progress are conducted to track their achievement, ensuring that the instruction remains aligned with the New York State Next Generation Standards. This continuous evaluation helps adjust the support provided to meet the evolving needs of each student.

AIS Entrance Criteria

Entrance criteria for Academic Intervention Services (AIS) include a variety of factors to ensure students who need extra help are identified. These criteria often involve performance on reading and mathematics assessments, where students who score below grade level may be referred for AIS. Independent reading levels are also considered, as students who struggle with reading fluency or comprehension might need additional support. Teacher recommendations play an important role, as educators can identify students who are having difficulty meeting expectations despite their best efforts. Additionally, New York State assessments are used to evaluate students’ performance against state standards. If students show consistent academic challenges in these areas, they may be eligible for AIS to receive the necessary interventions and support.
